Corporate & macro desk

What moved the tape and what the IR desks were announcing

  • Coal India Q2 profit up 53% — Net profit rose 52.99% to Rs 6,516 crore from Rs 4,259 crore, on revenue of Rs 44,179 crore, up 20.86% from Rs 36,553 crore.
  • Trent grew 23% and still led the Nifty's fallers — Net profit rose 23.06% to Rs 463.77 crore on revenue of Rs 5,873.14 crore, up 21.9%. The stock closed at Rs 2,861.70, down 1.79%, the worst Nifty 50 performer of the session — a reminder that a result beating last year is not the same as a result beating what the market had already priced.
  • IndiGo narrowed its loss on a 26% revenue increase — InterGlobe Aviation reported a net loss of Rs 1,878.6 crore against Rs 2,581.7 crore a year earlier, with revenue of Rs 23,363.8 crore, up 25.9%.
  • Asian Paints and Godrej Consumer lifted the FMCG tape — Asian Paints posted net profit of Rs 1,068 crore, up 7.45%, on revenue of Rs 9,954 crore, up 16.92%. Godrej Consumer Products reported Rs 523 crore, up 13.84%, on Rs 4,413 crore, up 19.01%. Nifty FMCG closed 2.34% higher.
  • Ambuja Cements and Suzlon both fell sharply on the bottom line — Ambuja reported net profit of Rs 193 crore against Rs 1,774 crore a year earlier, on near-flat revenue of Rs 9,166 crore. Suzlon Energy's net profit fell 69.2% to Rs 394.15 crore even as revenue rose 25.9% to Rs 4,875 crore.
  • Laurus Labs declared an interim dividend with a 6 November record date — Net profit rose 126.43% to Rs 441 crore. The board declared an interim dividend of Re 1 per share for FY27, record date 6 November.
  • Crude eased and the rupee gave up 4 paise — Brent settled at $114.88 a barrel, down 44 cents, and WTI at $102, down 78 cents, as hopes of US–Iran talks offset Middle East supply concerns. The rupee closed at 95.26 against the dollar from 95.22, with traders citing likely RBI intervention.
  • Wall Street fell on Alphabet while India was closed — The Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.38% and the Dow 0.25% in the session that ended after the Indian close, on what the AP wire called a historic drop in Alphabet's stock. The Russell 2000 rose 1%, so the weakness was narrow.

Grey market premium is an unofficial, unregulated indicator with no bearing on the actual listing price, and is published here for completeness only. The whole GMP column is taken from a single source carrying one page-level timestamp inside the bidding window; other trackers read BLS Polymers between Rs 51 and Rs 60 after the close, and Business Today quoted Rs 57–60, so treat the absolute as indicative. The whole subscription column is likewise from one source at one time — a separate report put SFC Environmental at 9.25 times against the 8.90 times shown here. NSE's stated issue size EXCLUDES the anchor-investor portion: BLS Polymers' total issue of 1,70,00,000 shares less a 51,00,000-share anchor book gives exactly the 1,19,00,000 shown. Basis-of-allotment and listing dates, and anchor-book status, were not sourced this run and are left blank — a blank means not sourced, not nil. Also open on BSE SME during the session: Wiscon Industries, Ajwa Projects, Carver Roboweld and Antala Industries. Vedant Poly Fabs (NSE SME) opens 02 November.

US index cards show the 29 October close — the same calendar day as the Indian session, since Wall Street shut at about 02:00 IST this morning. Crude figures are exchange settlements. Gold rates are Indian retail reference rates that vary by city and aggregator. Silver is omitted: two aggregators read the session Rs 24,000 apart per kilogram, which is too wide to publish.

What we are watching next session

  • NTPC and Muthoot Finance report on Saturday 31 October and Power Grid on Sunday 1 November — three results landing before Monday's open, so the IR desks lose the usual same-day market reaction and should expect the questions to arrive all at once.
  • ITC, Marico, Petronet LNG, Container Corporation, Escorts Kubota, Tata Investment and GSFC all meet on Monday 2 November, with State Bank of India, Bajaj Finserv, Lupin and four more on 3 November. The first week of November is the heaviest of the season.
  • Nine issuers go ex-dividend on Friday 30 October, Chennai Petroleum at Rs 25 and Supreme Industries at Rs 12 the largest, with Genus Power's buy-back also going ex. Registrars and IR inboxes should be ready for record-date queries.
  • M. K. Sons Fine Jewels takes its final bids on 30 October with the book only 1.15 times covered at Thursday's close, while Bombay Coated and Special Steels runs to 2 November. A thinly covered mainboard book is the kind of detail issuer boards watch closely.
  • India VIX fell 6.46% to 15.20, its calmest reading in this stretch, and crude eased off the highs. Both reduce the backdrop noise for companies choosing when to put out a results release or a fund-raising resolution.
