Midcap and smallcap mover tables are omitted again: the NSE constituent endpoint that fed them has returned 404 for eight consecutive runs and no replacement screener has been found. Market-wide breadth is also withheld — two wraps gave flatly different counts for the session (2,455 advances against 2,807), and the losers side of the NSE feed hit its twenty-row cap, so no exact Nifty 50 count could be derived either.

Corporate & macro desk

What moved the tape and what the IR desks were announcing

  • Tata Consumer led the Nifty after a profit beat — The stock closed at Rs 1,000.00, up 6.78% and the best performer in the index, after September-quarter profit came in ahead of expectations.
  • Defence Acquisition Council cleared about Rs 2.12 lakh crore of proposals — The approvals lifted the defence pack through the session. Bharat Electronics closed 1.36% higher on the NSE feed; BEML and Astra Microwave Products were reported up 7.9% and 4.8% respectively.
  • Coal India stepped up first-half capital spending — H1 FY27 capex rose about 27% to Rs 7,996 crore from Rs 6,283 crore a year earlier. The stock was among the session's weakest large caps, closing at Rs 398.00, down 1.73%.
  • Tata Motors' Iveco bid crossed the 80% acceptance threshold — The company reported holding 89.42% of Iveco's common shares. No closing percentage is carried for the stock: only one source quoted one.
  • Jio Platforms lists on 28 October — The Rs 30,213 crore issue, priced at Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119, closed on 23 October subscribed 22.19 times — QIB 70.55x, NII 14.00x and retail 2.72x. Allotment was finalised on 26 October.
  • Brent settled lower on Middle East diplomacy — The December contract settled at $113.88 a barrel, down $1.93 or 1.67%, as talks around Iran progressed. WTI settled at $99.90.
  • The rupee closed at 95.12, and the wires disagree on the move — PTI copy carried by several outlets put the close at 95.12, up 3 paise — a change measured against roughly 95.15 for Monday, where this post's previous edition published 95.22 from the then-majority wire reading. The two series have not reconciled.
  • The US Federal Reserve began a two-day policy meeting — The decision follows on 28 October. Wall Street rose after the Indian close, with the Nasdaq up 1.18% on an Anthropic IPO filing.

Grey market premium is an unofficial, unregulated indication quoted outside the exchanges. It is not a price, not a forecast and carries no regulatory protection; it is reported here because readers ask for it, and should not be relied on. The whole GMP column is taken from one tracker and the whole subscription column from another, each named with its time — the two are never blended. A second tracker carried materially different GMPs at 8:15 AM (SFC Rs 21, BLS Rs 32, EAAA Rs 20) and a subscription column that did not reconcile — EAAA at 0.11x against 0.12x at the close of its first day, and SFC at 0.00x — so that column was not used. Basis-of-allotment and listing dates are blank because no source carried them: a blank cell means not sourced, not zero. Price bands, issue sizes and dates are cross-checked against NSE's own filing feed; every lot reconciles to the roughly Rs 15,000 retail minimum. Bombay Coated and Special Steels (29 Oct to 02 Nov) and M. K. Sons Fine Jewels (28 to 30 Oct) were forthcoming, not open, during the session.

US index cards are the 27 October close, which falls after the Indian session. Brent is the 27 October settlement of the December contract. Gold is a retail reference rate that varies by city, taken from goodreturns at 10:44 AM IST — a morning quote, with that source's own stated day change, measured within the same series this post used last edition. A second bullion series had gold lower on the day at Rs 1,42,850, so the direction is not agreed. Silver is the MCX December futures contract, not a retail rate, and is not comparable with retail quotes elsewhere.
