Percentages are recomputed from each row's own last-traded and previous-close price and the list re-sorted, rather than taken from the feed's change field. The losers side returned 13 rows against its twenty-row cap, so exactly 13 of the 50 Nifty constituents closed lower and 37 higher — a count 5paisa's index breadth reports independently. Market-wide NSE breadth is not shown: only one source carried it. The midcap and smallcap mover tables are again absent — the NSE constituent endpoint that fed them has not responded for several months and no closing wrap named broader-market movers for this session.

Corporate & macro desk
What moved the tape and what the IR desks were announcing
- Crude retreated from six-month highs, and that was the session — Reuters had Brent down $1.57, or 1.35%, at $115.15 by 1239 GMT, easing on hopes that US-Iran hostilities would de-escalate after Qatari mediators travelled to Tehran. Houthi strikes on Saudi pumping stations and Riyadh airport limited the fall, and US Strategic Petroleum Reserve stocks were reported at 282.6 million barrels, the lowest since October 1982. No 26 October settlement price had been published by any source reachable for this edition.
- JSW Steel's profit more than tripled; the stock led the metal pack — Consolidated profit after tax rose 225.3% year-on-year to Rs 5,279 crore from Rs 1,623 crore, revenue from operations rose 10.7% to Rs 54,486 crore and EBITDA climbed 42.2% to Rs 10,120 crore. JSWSTEEL closed 6.28% higher and Nifty Metal was the best sectoral at 2.21%.
- Dr Reddy's was the Nifty's biggest gainer after its September-quarter numbers — DRREDDY closed 6.62% higher, the top Nifty 50 performer, with the closing wraps attributing the move to a profit figure ahead of expectations despite a year-on-year decline. Four separate reports put that decline at about 36% on marginally lower revenue; they disagree on the absolute profit, so no figure is carried here. Nifty Pharma rose 1.76% and Nifty Healthcare 1.77%.
- Domestic institutions absorbed foreign selling — FIIs were net sellers of Rs 1,462.49 crore in the cash segment while DIIs bought a net Rs 2,609.57 crore — the mirror image of the previous session, when both were buyers on a falling market.
- The rupee fell for a third session, and the wires do not agree on where it closed — PTI copy carried 95.22 (provisional), down 29 paise from Friday's 94.93, and that reading appears in three separate reports. A second PTI take put the close at 95.15, down 22 paise, and HDFC Sky at 95.19. The table carries the majority figure; the spread is a paisa-level disagreement between wire takes, not a dispute about direction.
- EAAA India Alternatives opened its Rs 1,200 crore offer for sale — The mainboard issue took bids from 26 to 28 October at Rs 1,585-1,665 and was subscribed 0.12 times on day one (QIB 0.08x, NII 0.33x, retail 0.04x). The anchor book was finalised on 23 October at Rs 360.00 crore from 26 institutional investors at the upper band.
- A heavy results week opens on 27 October — Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, SBI Life and SAIL all have board meetings on the session after this one, with Hindustan Unilever, both Adani listed entities and Hero MotoCorp following on 28 October. Hexaware Technologies went ex-dividend during the session on an interim payout of Rs 9.50 a share.

Grey market premium is an unofficial, unregulated indication quoted outside the exchanges. It is not a price, not a forecast and carries no regulatory standing; it moves through the bidding window, which is why the time it was read is stamped above. The same tracker had shown Rs 36 at 4:15 PM IST on the session date before settling at Rs 27 by 7:00 PM. The percentage is against the Rs 1,665 upper band. The issue is wholly an offer for sale of 72,07,207 shares; the anchor book was finalised on 23 October at Rs 360.00 crore from 26 institutional investors. Subscription and GMP are each taken whole from one source rather than blended. Three further mainboard issues were forthcoming but not yet open during this session and so have no row — BLS Polymers and SFC Environmental Technologies from 27 October, and M. K. Sons Fine Jewels from 28 October. A blank cell means not sourced, not zero.

Bullion is a retail reference rate from Goodreturns for Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, stamped 26 Oct 2026, 10:23 IST — a morning quote, and a different series from previous editions, whose source could not be reached for this one, so these levels are not comparable with the last edition's; the change shown is the source's own. Silver is the MCX December contract, not a retail per-kg rate. Brent is Reuters' intraday quote at 1239 GMT: no 26 October settlement had been published anywhere reachable, and other readings circulating for the day ranged from $110.19 to $115.24. The rupee is the majority wire reading; two other takes had 95.15 and 95.19. The US indices are the same calendar day as the Indian session — Wall Street closed at about 02:00 IST this morning.
What we are watching next session
- The heaviest results day of the week lands on 27 October — Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, SBI Life and SAIL all report, with Tata Capital also taking an MTN programme limit enhancement to its board.
- Whether crude's retreat holds. Brent came off a six-month high on de-escalation hopes, but the attacks on Saudi infrastructure that drove the four-day run-up have not stopped, and the US reserve is at its thinnest since 1982.
- The rupee's third straight fall took it past 95 on the majority wire reading. An importer-led move at these levels is a currency-disclosure question for issuers with unhedged dollar costs.
- EAAA India Alternatives closes its book on 28 October after a slow first day at 0.12 times, with retail at 0.04x — the QIB build on the final two days is the number to watch.
- The Index of Industrial Production prints on 28 October, the first macro release of the window, ahead of CPI on 12 November and the RBI's December policy meeting.
