• A narrow, IT-led rally — Nifty IT (+1.82%), Nifty Private Bank (+1.89%), Nifty Auto (+1.67%) and Nifty Financial Services (+1.67%) carried the benchmarks, while Nifty PSU Bank (-1.55%), Nifty Media (-1.47%) and Nifty FMCG (-1.06%) fell. Participation was thin beneath the large caps: Nifty Next 50 -0.47%, Midcap 100 -0.36%, Smallcap 100 -1.31% and Microcap 250 -1.65%. India VIX eased 4.58% to 13.96.
• Tech Mahindra: profit up 32.7%, 1:1 bonus recommended — September-quarter net profit of Rs 1,586 crore, up 32.7% year on year, on revenue of Rs 16,180 crore, up 15.6%. The board declared an interim dividend of Rs 15 per share with a record date of 23 October and recommended a 1:1 bonus issue subject to shareholder approval. The stock was the best Nifty 50 performer at +4.75% before the post-close announcement.
• Nestle India the steepest Nifty 50 decline on results day — Shares fell 7.76% on the day the company reported September-quarter results. Profit and revenue both grew year on year, so the move was a reaction to the print rather than to a miss on direction; published accounts of the growth rates differ across wires and are not reproduced here.
• Supreme Court sets aside the YES Bank AT-1 write-off — The court upheld the quashing of the Rs 8,415-crore write-off of YES Bank's additional tier-1 bonds, reopening a liability question that dates to the 2020 reconstruction. The stock fell sharply; reported declines ranged from 9% to 20% across wires, so no single figure is carried. YES Bank reports its own September-quarter results on 17 October.
• Government sells 60.72% of IDBI Bank to Fairfax — The sale of a 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank to Canada's Fairfax was announced at about USD 5.5 billion. IDBI shares fell around 7%, and the PSU bank index was the day's weakest sector. IDBI Bank reports results on 17 October.
• FIIs sold into the rally — Foreign institutions were net sellers of Rs 5,285.37 crore in the cash segment on a day the Nifty 50 rose 1.66% — the largest single-session FII outflow in the recent run — against domestic institutional buying of Rs 3,319.39 crore.
• Crude gave the market its cover — Brent was quoted at about USD 104.13 a barrel during the Indian session, down 1.82%, and the closing wraps named softer oil as the session's main support alongside a firmer rupee.

Bullion is India Bullion Rates' retail reference, stamped 15 October 2026, 9:40 AM IST; Indian retail quotes vary by city and by aggregator, and MCX December gold traded at a similar level on the day. The US index cards are Thursday 15 October's Wall Street close — the same calendar day as the Indian session, since Wall Street shuts before this edition is written. Brent is the level quoted during the Indian session, not a settlement. On USD-INR, two PTI-sourced reports gave different closes for the same session — 94.99 (up 18 paise) and 95.05 (up 12 paise); the figure shown is PTI via The Print, whose Sensex, Nifty and FII figures all reconcile exactly against NSE.
