NSE's gainers feed listed 16 advancing Nifty 50 names, below its 20-row cap, so 34 of the 50 fell or were unchanged; the losers feed returned exactly 20 rows and is capped, so no decline count is stated. Market-wide advance/decline counts are omitted because the closing wraps disagreed materially with one another. All mover figures are from the NSE 16:00 feed; a broker ticker differed on Bajaj Finserv and Cipla and was not used. Midcap and smallcap mover tables are omitted again: NSE's constituent endpoint has returned 404 for eight consecutive runs and no wrap carried a dated 14 October list.

Corporate & macro desk
What moved the tape and what the IR desks were announcing
- Wholesale inflation jumped to 11.39% in September — Up from 9.92% in August and above the Reuters poll, on higher fuel, food and manufactured-product prices. The print landed during the session, lifted bond yields and weighed on rate-sensitive autos, private banks and metals.
- The print lands three sessions after the RBI raised rates — The Monetary Policy Committee lifted the repo rate 25 basis points to 5.50% on 7 October and shifted its stance to calibrated tightening, projecting FY27 CPI inflation at 5.2% and GDP growth at 7.1%. The October minutes are due 21 October.
- US September CPI came in hot after the Indian close — Headline CPI rose 0.6% on the month and 3.7% year on year against a 3.6% consensus; core rose 2.6%. Wall Street fell, with the Nasdaq Composite down 1.88% and S&P 500 information technology off 3.00%, and the 10-year Treasury yield above 5.27%.
- Rupee firmed 19 paise to 95.17 on RBI intervention — PTI reported the central bank acting to ease near-term dollar demand and curb speculative positioning, helped by a softer dollar and lower US yields. Weak domestic equities capped the gain.
- Brent held above $106 on Middle East supply risk — Crude rose after a fire at a Saudi Aramco building in Dhahran, closing the Indian session up 0.64% at $106.37 a barrel. Sustained strength raises India's import bill and complicates the inflation path.
- Foreign selling reached a thirteenth consecutive session — FPIs sold Rs 1,305 crore on 13 October, with year-to-date outflows at a record $32.52 billion on HDFC Sky's count, before a further Rs 1,857.44 crore of net cash-segment selling on 14 October. Domestic institutions absorbed both days.
- Tata Elxsi rose on results; Zydus fell on a USFDA inspection — Tata Elxsi gained 5.73% after higher quarterly profit led by its transportation and media businesses. Zydus Lifesciences declined after the US regulator closed an inspection of its Ahmedabad plant with five observations.

Grey-market premium (GMP) is an unofficial, unregulated indicator quoted outside the exchanges. It is not exchange data, carries no regulatory standing and routinely diverges between trackers and from the eventual listing price; it is published here for awareness only. The whole GMP column is taken from a single source rather than blended — investorgain's figures at roughly the same time were Rs 91 and Rs 33.50. ipowatch's subscription stamp carries a time but no calendar date; read as the 14 October close, and consistent with ipoji's lower intra-session readings of 4.76x and 0.28x earlier that day. Issue size is the rupee figure, on which ipoji and investorgain agree for both issues; NSE's filed share count is lower than the trackers' and for HD Fire Protect equals the issue exactly net of the anchor book, so the two are measuring different things. A blank cell means not sourced, not zero. Four further mainboard issues opened on 15 October, the day after this session, and so are not given rows here: Sahajanand Medical Technologies (Rs 327–344), Bonfiglioli Transmissions (Rs 558–586), Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses (Rs 143–151) and Tonbo Imaging India (Rs 665–700), all bidding 15–19 October.

Commodities, currency & global
The three US indices are the 14 October close — the same calendar day as the Indian session, since Wall Street shuts at about 2:00 AM IST. Retail 24K and 22K gold are national reference rates from Bajaj Broking, stamped 14 October, 8:00 AM IST; retail quotes vary by city and by aggregator, and city 24K rates ran marginally higher. Silver is published as the MCX December contract rather than a retail rate because retail quotes for the day diverged far too widely to be useful, from about Rs 2.17 lakh to Rs 2.57 lakh per kg. Rupee and Brent levels are the PTI close; Brent is the December contract. India VIX appears under Benchmarks.
What we are watching next session
- HD Fire Protect's final day of bidding on 15 October, with the issue covered 16.53x at the close of day two, and Fusion CX's second day after a 0.43x first day.
- Four mainboard IPOs opening together on 15 October — Sahajanand Medical Technologies, Bonfiglioli Transmissions, Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses and Tonbo Imaging India, all bidding to 19 October. A crowded window tests how much primary-market appetite is left.
- Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Nestle India, HDFC Life, Jio Financial Services and Polycab all report on 15 October. Tech Mahindra's board also takes up a bonus issue, and HDFC Life's a fund-raising resolution — both disclosures IR desks should have pre-cleared.
- The large private banks on 17 October — HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank on the same day. After a session in which financials led the decline, the commentary on margins will matter more than the headline numbers.
- Whether the 11.39% wholesale print changes the tone around the RBI's calibrated-tightening stance. Forex reserves land 16 October and the October MPC minutes on 21 October.
- HCL Technologies goes ex-dividend on 16 October for its Rs 12 interim payout, alongside Hindustan Composites' Rs 21 special dividend and Bansal Wire's Rs 5-to-Re 1 face-value split.
